Defending champions FC Bengaluru United put in an attacking performance in the ongoing BDFA Super Division Championship as they registered a 3-0 win over FC Deccan. The two-time champions began slowly but were soon in the groove, creating chances aplenty through smartly constructed pieces. Conversion soon followed; Manvir Singh (25), Mohamed Kdouh (27) and Irfan Yerwad (72) were the goalscorers for FCBU.
As has been the overarching script for their games thus far, FC Bengaluru United started off looking to control possession. After a few early stutters, they began creating strong chances but fell short at the finishing line. Mohamed Kdouh had two clear chances on goal early on but failed to capitalize on them. Twenty-five minutes in, FCBU finally converted a chance – Shajan Franklin smartly took the ball off the FC Deccan midfielder and after a smart run onto goal, slid the ball to Selwyn Miranda, who after adroitly cutting past two defenders sets up an easy chance for Manvir Singh to slot it easily into the goal.
This seemed to galvanise the defending champions – two minutes later, Kdouh more than made up for his early missed chances with a beautiful conversion – he played the ball from the midfield to Ashok Singh who drove strongly into the box where Kdouh was waiting. The Lebanese flicked the ball from behind his legs to get his team up 2-0 in style.
The tempo seemed to slow down in the second half. Both teams looked sluggish at the start, more content to just look to have possession rather than create any chances. In the 72nd minute, however, Irfan Yerwad, who has been one of the star players for FCBU this season, made the most of a neat assist from Shajan Franklin, deftly getting past the opposition defence and their goalkeeper to get FCBU up 3-0.
A few more half chances followed but were not meant to be; the game ending with FCBU winning 3-0.
