FC Bengaluru United pulled off a 2-0 win over FC Deccan in their third and final league game of the Stafford Challenge Cup 2023 to emerge as group leaders. Irfan Yadwad with a double strike (12’,18’) kept up his goalscoring form for his side as they emerged triumphant over a doughty FC Deccan.
In the 12th minute of the game, Aenam K Jyrwa set up a free header for Irfan right in front of the goal, off a corner, which the tall striker did not miss; FCBU getting on the scoreboard early. Six minutes, later Yadwad got his brace: a back pass played by the FC Deccan goalkeeper was muffed up by the goalkeeper, to set up an easy strike for Yadwad. Yadwad continued to be in the thick of things, a shot from him off the cross hit the post, denying him his hat trick.
FCBU started the setting half attacking strongly, creating a few chances, creating a few half chances, but were unable to finish them. They will now look to get their team combination as well as gameplay tactics on point as they look ahead to their semi-final clash against ASC on Saturday.
